Item Using Learning Analytics to Detect Authentic Leadership Characteristics in Engineering Students(2018-05-01) Sein-Echaluce, M. L.; Fidalgo-Blanco, Á.; Esteban-Escaño, J.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.; Conde, M. Á.Previous research has shown that teamwork between students underpins the communication interactions among team members, and these interactions are underscored in the work environment, job quality, work outcome and, of course, grades. Analysing the interactions among the members of a team using a learning analytics system allows for a forma-tive evaluation that indicates the progress of each team member and taking remedial actions if appropriate progress has not been made. This paper uses a learning analytics system to study interactions between students and detect the values and attitudes demanded of a leader by society. The results of this analysis are keys for avoiding corruption and wrong practices and can even provide a solution to global intercultural troubles. In this study, a validated questionnaire of authentic leadership was given to 78 team members in a university context; the influence of some values and attitudes on leadership is proved with grades; and a learning analytics system was used to analyse information that could predict a leader’s behaviour during the development of teamwork.Item Pilot test for validation of an instrument of knowledge management in the massive open online context(ACM, 2017-10-18) Esteban-Escaño, J.; Fidalgo-Blanco, Á.; Sein-Echaluce, M. L.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.Knowledge management is a systematic process that deals with looking for, filtering, introducing and using information with the support of information technologies. The objective of using knowledge management depends on the sector that uses it. In companies, it is a value in the balance, in education it is a way to improve the successful of students. The massive open online courses (MOOC) are a topic in which it has been done little researching into the area of knowledge management. In this work, it will be presented a measurement instrument of knowledge management processes on MOOC. The model is based on a previous model used in business who has been adapted to the intercultural, massive and informal context of MOOC. Item The Learning Improvement of Engineering Students using Peer-Created Complementary Resources(Tempus Publication, 2017-03-31) Sein-Echaluce Lacleta, M. L.; Fidalgo-Blanco, Á.; Esteban-Escaño, J.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.In any organization, the individual is considered an issuer of knowledge who can improve corporate knowledge, and learning is considered to be a key factor in promoting the creation of knowledge. As the knowledge of the individual increases, the organization's knowledge also increases. The same happens in educational institutions, but there is a tendency in most educational methodologies to consider the student as a mere recipient of knowledge. This paper presents a model where the student is shown as a knowledge issuer both for their own benefit and for their peers. The key idea is the transfer of knowledge produced by students to organizational knowledge through the knowledge management system the Collaborative Academic Resources Finder (BRACO, for its acronym in Spanish). At the same time, certain quantitative measurement instruments provide insight into student perception of the use of this knowledge in a particular subject in their engineering degree studies as well as the measure of BRACO impact on their learning outcomes. The results of this work show that an experimental group obtained higher scores in tests than a control group. Results also show that BRACO had a significant impact on learning, and students promoted, organized and used the resources generated by fellow students.Item Learning analytics to identify the influence of leadership on the academic performance of work teams(2016-11) Fidalgo-Blanco, Á.; Sein-Echaluce Lacleta, M. L.; Esteban-Escaño, J.; García-Peñalvo, Francisco J.; Conde-González, M. Á.Item Seguimiento Adaptativo del Trabajo de Fin de Grado en Ingeniería con Apoyo de Moodle(2016) Esteban-Sánchez, A. L.; Esteban-Escaño, J.; Sein-Echaluce Lacleta, M. L.On current Engineering degrees it’s necessary to design a monitoring process in order to supervise the subject called “degree final project”. This method must be able to manage and evaluate the process and the final documentation. This paper describes the design of an adaptive method and how to put this mechanism into practice using the e-learning system Moodle. Adaptivity gives us the chance of studying different scenarios that can be produced between students and their tutors. The conclusions of this work show a high level of satisfaction whit the adaptative method used in the subject.
