Item Catch the Open! A Gamified Interactive Immersion Into Open Educational Practices for Higher Education Educators(Frontiers, 2022-06-29) Padilla-Zea, N.; Burgos, D.; García-Holgado, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.; de-la-Higuera, C.; Brunton, J.; Tlili, A.Open Education (OE) opens up learning opportunities to, potentially, every person in the world. Additionally, it allows teachers, researchers, and practitioners to find, share, reuse, and improve existing resources under a dependable legal framework. Aiming to spread and foster the introduction of open policies in Higher Education (HE) institutions, the gamified interactive learning experience Catch the Open! was developed. Catch the Open! targets HE educators who wish to learn, or who wish to deepen their existing knowledge, about OE and Open Educational Practices (OEP). Within the gamified learning experience, the user becomes an educator, Alex, the game character, who receives a task from the Rector: to investigate how to best include OE and OEP in teaching and learning practice within the institution. Alex proceeds to explore and gather information in a web-based 2D virtual HE institution where students, colleagues, and guest researchers will help her to develop a comprehensive understanding of OE and the practical application of OEP. The educational content within Catch the Open! is underpinned by an OE competences framework for HE educators, developed in a previous phase of the Erasmus+ OpenGame project. In this paper, the design process to link pedagogical and technological approaches, which results in the Catch the Open! gamified web-based interactive application, is presented as well as the application itself. Moreover, two phases of piloting with 153 HE educators from six different HE institutions are presented. The obtained findings showed that the gamified environment helped in learning about OE. On the other hand, learners also suggested several improvement aspects of the gamified environment, such as the length of finishing a learning mission while playing.Item Guía de buenas prácticas para la educación abierta(Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR), 2021-05-18) García-Holgado, A.; Nascimbeni, F.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.; Brunton, J.; Bonaudo, P.; de la Higuera, C.; Ehlers, U.; Hvarchilkova, D.; Padilla-Zea, N.; Teixeira, A.; Teixeira Pinto, M.; Vázquez-Ingelmo, A.; Burgos, D.OpenGame ha creado esta guía con el apoyo del programa Erasmus+. Busca contribuir a la adopción de prácticas para la educación abierta por parte de los educadores en el marco de la Educación Superior. Para ello, se exponen 24 prácticas efectivas para la educación abierta. Dan respuesta a los ocho principales retos a los que se enfrentan actualmente los educadores, que se pueden abordar con un enfoque abierto. Estos desafíos son los siguientes: Acceso más amplio a la enseñanza para los estudiantes matriculados, acceso más amplio a la enseñanza para los no matriculados, mejorar la calidad de los recursos didácticos, mejorar el diseño del curso, aumentar la motivación de los estudiantes, aumentar el compromiso de los alumnos, evaluar a los estudiantes de forma útil para su carrera futura, y utilizar el potencial de aprendizaje las nuevas tecnologías. Para cada uno de ellos se presentan tres prácticas de educación abierta. Más adelante detallaremos su potencial de transferibilidad y las competencias necesarias para ponerlos en práctica. Con ello se busca que los educadores prueben estos métodos para que sus clases sean más inclusivas e innovadoras. Por otro lado, el documento presenta un Marco original de Competencias para la Educación Abierta que se estructura en torno a una actitud transversal, dos áreas de competencias (recursos educativos abiertos y pedagogías abiertas) y otras capacidades especificadas. Al conectar estos retos, prácticas y competencias necesarias, se busca mostrar que los acercamientos de la educación abierta son relevantes para los problemas diarios de los educadores y fáciles de implementar. J.; Brunton, J.; Bonaudo, P.; de la Higuera, C.; Ehlers, U.; Hvarchilkova, D.; Padilla-Zea, N.; Teixeira, A.; Teixeira Pinto, M.; Vázquez-Ingelmo, A.; Burgos, D.This handbook, produced by OpenGame project with the support of the Erasmus+ programme, aims to contribute to the adoption of open teaching practices among educators in the Higher Education area. In order to do so, the document presents 24 successful open teaching practices that respond to eight main challenges that educators face today and that can be tackled through open approaches. These challenges are: Broaden access to learning for enrolled students, Broaden access to learning for non-enrolled learners, Improve quality of teaching resources, Improve course design, Increase students motivation, Increase students engagement, Assess students in a useful way for their future career, Use the learning potential of students' online life. For each of these challenges, we present three open teaching practices, detailing their potential for transferability and the competences needed to put them in place, ultimately aiming at inspiring educators to try out these methods to make their teaching more inclusive and innovative. Also, the document presents an original Open Education Competences Framework, structured around one transversal attitude, two competences areas (open resources and open pedagogies) and a number of detailed skills. By connecting challenges, practices and needed competences, we aim to show that open teaching approaches are both relevant to daily problems of educators and easily implementable, and we hope that readers will be encouraged to try out these open strategies in their everyday work.
