Abstract: The popularity of Augmented Reality in recent years has not gone unnoticed by the Digital Humanities and cultural institutions. It constitutes an alternative and innovative way of bringing knowledge closer and developing meaningful, interactive, and contextualized learning about our heritage. In the educational field, an increasing interest in AR is identified as a future resource in Digital Education Projects. This paper reflects on the educational scope of AR in the processes of teaching and learning of historical and cultural heritage. As a methodological proposal, a Systematic Review of the Literature has been carried out, composed between the years 2016 and 2021. Regarding the PRISMA 2020 protocol, 35 academic articles have been analyzed, all collected from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Existing lines of research, application contexts, implementation techniques, participant profiles, and socio-educational contributions in this field of knowledge have been analyzed. In conclusion, the didactic and informative potential of AR in learning cultural, historical, and material heritage is reaffirmed.
