A systematic literature review is a systematic method for identifying, evaluating, and interpreting the work of scholars and practitioners in a chosen field. Its purpose is to identify gaps in knowl-edge and research needs in a particular field. Systematic reviews form a broad family of methods and approaches and are made absolutely necessary by the enormous volume of scientific out-put in digital format that is potentially accessible. However, it is not enough to label a review as systematic. This article aims to present the different phases to be carried out when conducting a systematic review. It begins with introducing the methodological frameworks for conducting systematic reviews and then goes into the phases of planning, conducting, and reporting the sys-tematic review. So that any article bearing this label (systematic literature review), in addition to complying with methodological and transparency principles, allows any researcher not only to trust the conclusions derived from the work but also to evolve the systematic review carried out to tackle the problem derived from the obsolescence and continuous advance of scientific knowledge, in line with the FAIR data model, i.e., it meets the principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse.
