Learning Analytics in Spanish K-12 levels: A Systematic Literature Review
    (2023-12-27) Donate-Beby, B.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.; Amo-Filva, D.
Learning analytics is defined as the measurement, collection, analysis, and presentation of data about learners and their contexts to understand and optimize learning and the environments in which it occurs. Although their usefulness could be fundamental to recognize students’ learning processes, there is no clear framework on the current state of development of learning analytics in the K-12 Spanish territory. The present work aims to increase knowledge on the empirical frame of the question through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The methodology follows the indications provided by the PRISMA procedure. As a result, 16 papers have been selected and analyzed using different research indicators. The most significant findings within the selected papers are a lack of research where teachers have maintained an active role in the development of Learning Analytics in the natural educational context. Also, it has been found a tendency for the prediction and improvement of student engagement and performance on Game Learning Analytics in different knowledge or competencies.

Unpacking the Evaluation Proceeding of Clinical Decision Support Systems: A review of methodological approaches and categories
    (CEUR-WS.org, 2023-12-05) Azadi, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.
Medical personnel must utilize Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) to enhance clinical decision-making, minimize mistakes, and improve patient outcomes. Accurately evaluating the performance of CDSS is essential to avouch their effectiveness and efficiency. We have reviewed the literature to provide insights into evaluating CDSS, along with the criteria that need to be assessed, such as accuracy, usability, and efficiency. Researchers are instructed to pick an acceptable technique depending on their research aims and the situation in which they will analyze Clinical decision support systems after considering potential obstacles and constraints within the procedure. By conducting these types of research projects, we will be able to improve the quality of the decision-support systems and enhance their utility in clinical practice. This article provides valuable intuition for researchers, healthcare professionals, and decision-makers seeking to evaluate the performance of CDSS in healthcare settings.

Showcasing sentiment classification and word prediction in the quantum natural processing area
    (CEUR-WS.org, 2023-12-05) Peral-García, D.; Cruz-Benito, J.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.
The advent of quantum computers makes it possible to perform quantum computations in different areas like machine learning, finance, or chemistry. This paper showcases one of the emerging areas under quantum machine learning, quantum natural language processing. We present two quantum natural language processing tasks, sentiment classification and missing word prediction in a sentence. We show how these tasks can be achieved even in real quantum computers using the two main libraries in this subfield, DisCoPy, and lambeq.

KoopaML: Application for receiving and processing DICOM images
    (CEUR-WS.org, 2023-12-05) Fraile-Sanchón, R.; Vázquez-Ingelmo, A.; García-Holgado, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.
AI algorithms application to medical data has gained relevance due to their powerful benefits among different research tasks. However, medical data is heterogeneous and diverse, and these algorithms need technological support to tackle these data management challenges. KoopaML enables users to unify medical data, especially DICOM images and apply AI algorithms to them in a straightforward way through an online web application. This work presents a new feature in the KoopaML platform: a Machine Learning platform to assist non-expert users in defining and applying ML pipelines. The feature comprises the reception, storage, and management of DICOM images. These images are received through a connection with a PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) system already configured by users on the platform and, after storing the images, it is possible to apply AI algorithms to them and make modifications or annotations.

Systematic review of Erasmus+ projects labelled as good practice and related to e-learning and ICT: Some case studies
    (2023-11-22) Alonso de Castro, M. G.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.
This article focuses on the methodology applied for the review of European educational projects, within the framework of Erasmus+, labelled as good practices and that are related to electronic learning or the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education. In addition, some of the projects that have passed all the research phases and have proven to be sustainable over time are analyzed. The projects presented represent different educational sectors and propose learning systems through ICT with the involvement of students and/or teachers. As they are good practice projects, the article can contribute both to the use or transfer of the resources developed in these projects, and to be able to inspire new projects in those lines of work. The main factors that have contributed to the success of the projects are their usefulness for the educational community beyond the time of funding, the use of innovative methodologies applied with teachers and students, establishing them in the participating institutions. Another notable fact is the good collaboration and rapport between all the project partners who worked to get common objectives.
