In particular, when the ecosystem is focused on learning processes associated with knowledge are named learning ecosystems. The learning ecosystem metamodel defined in previous works solves several problems related to the definition and implementation of these solutions. However, there are still challenges associated with improving the analysis and visualization of information as a way to discover knowledge and support decision making processes. On the other hand, there is a metamodel proposal to define customized dashboards for supporting decision-making processes. In previous years, different changes have been introduced in the teaching methods with significant outcomes. However, students are still facing difficulties with one of the core contents of the subject, UML. For this reason, the present work aims to introduce C4 model as a complement of the existing UML diagrams. J.There is a need to improve the definition and development of technological ecosystems in order to solve the main problems detected in previous studies. To achieve this goal, it is required to identify and analyse the solutions available in the literature in the field of software engineering applied to ecosystems. The research in software ecosystems is a relatively young research area, but there are already several works that analyse the literature associated. To conduct a new systematic literature review is necessary to ensure that there are no studies that do the same, namely, that do not answer the same research questions. The identification of the need for a review was done through a study focused on systematic literature reviews and mapping studies about software ecosystems. This work aims to describe the mapping conducted as part of that study. It provides a global state of the art of this kind of studies in the area of software ecosystems.Item Validation of the learning ecosystem metamodel using transformation rules(Elsevier, 2019-01-01) García-Holgado, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.The learning ecosystem metamodel is a platform-independent model to define learning ecosystems. It is based on the architectural pattern for learning ecosystems. To ensure the quality of the learning ecosystem metamodel is necessary to validate it through a Model-to-Model transformation. Specifically, it is required to verify that the learning ecosystem metamodel allows defining real learning ecosystems based on the architectural pattern. Although this transformation can be done manually, the use of tools to automate the process ensures its validity and minimize the risk of bias. This work describes the validations process composed of eight phases and the results obtained, in particular: the transformation of the MOF metamodel to Ecore to use stable tools for the validation, the definition of a platform-specific metamodel for defining learning ecosystems and the transformation from instances of the learning ecosystem metamodel to instances of the platform-specific metamodel using ATL. A quality framework has been applied to the three metamodels involved in the process to guarantee the quality of the results. Furthermore, some phases have been used to review and improve the learning ecosystem metamodel in Ecore. Finally, the result of the process demonstrates that the learning ecosystem metamodel is valid. Namely, it allows defining models that represent learning ecosystems based on the architectural pattern that can be deployed in real contexts to solve learning and knowledge management problems.Item Inclusion of gender perspective in Computer Engineering careers. Elaboration of a questionnaire to assess the gender gap in Tertiary Education(IEEE, 2018-04-17) García-Holgado, A.; Mena, J.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.; González, C.Gender inequality is a global problem present in all facets of life to a greater or lesser degree. In the fields of Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, both in career and work contexts, the gender gap continues. The percentage of women who study or work in the technology sector is around 25% according to different international reports. The incorporation of gender studies in the curricula is considered one of the main actions to close the gender gap in tertiary education. Education programs should approach conceptual mismatches between gender or sex and change its foundations to guarantee equal education for any person by limiting the influence of social stereotypes and dominant culture. There are few studies that aim at describing what is the main stream viewpoints among students from research instruments previously validated. This work describes the process to elaborate a questionnaire on gender perspectives and its validation in order to describe what students of Computer Engineering careers think and what changes can be implemented accordingly in future education programs to close the gender gap.Item Pilot experience applying an active learning methodology in a Software Engineering classroom(IEEE, 2018-04-17) García-Holgado, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.Software Engineering I is a mandatory subject for undergraduate students that is taught in the second semester of the 2nd year of the Degree in Computer Sciences at the University of Salamanca (Spain). This degree exists since 1989 but it has transformed over time according to the education law changes in Spain and Europe. Software Engineering I is the first subject related to the area of software engineering that is taught in the degree. The novelty of the concepts and the need to develop abstract thinking to acquire the different competences of the subject, implies a handicap to teach the subject. The final grades obtained by the students in the subject are fairly low compared with other subjects in the degree. Moreover, the attendance to the face-to-face classes is continuously reduced throughout the semester, which affects to the continuous assessment. Some initiatives have been applied during previous school years but a global change of the subject is necessary. In order to increase the success rate of the subject and to achieve that students are involved in the learning process, authors have implemented an active learning methodology based on team working. Furthermore, two instruments have defined to measure the impact of the changes and evaluate the pilot.
