Item Analyzing the usability of the WYRED Platform with undergraduate students to improve its features(Springer Nature, 2019-08-30) García-Peñalvo, F. J.; Vázquez-Ingelmo, A.; García-Holgado, A.; Seoane-Pardo, A. M.The WYRED ecosystem is a technological ecosystem developed as part of WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empow-erment in the Digital society), a European Project funded by the Horizon 2020 program. The main aim of the project is to provide a framework for research in which children and young people can express and explore their perspectives and interests concerning digital society. The WYRED ecosystem supports this framework from a technological point of view. The WYRED Platform is one of the main software components of this complex technological solution; it is focused on supporting the social dialogues that take place between children, young people and stakeholders. The ecosystem, and in particular the Platform, are already developed, but it is vital to ensure the acceptance by the final users, the children and young people mainly. This work presents the usability test carried out to evolve the Platform through the System Usability Scale. This usability test allows the identification of the weaknesses of the Platform regarding its characteristics, also allowing the corresponding improvement of the WYRED Platform, and it will serve as a reference for further usability testing.Item Study of the Usability of the WYRED Ecosystem Using Heuristic Evaluation(Springer Nature, 2019-07-26) García-Peñalvo, F. J.; Vázquez-Ingelmo, A.; García-Holgado, A.The WYRED ecosystem is a composition of Open Source tools and the people involved in the project, i.e., partners, stakeholders and young people between the ages of 7 and 30 years. The main component of this ecosystem is the WYRED Platform. The WYRED Platform relies on communities, which are a set of interaction spaces where conversations and research projects are developed. Every community has a person or persons in charge of its man-agement, which are the so-called facilitators, and also a set of members, mainly young people, interacting through discussion threads. The high levels of inter-action required to accomplish the WYRED Platform’s goals lead to the neces-sity of ensuring that the system is accepted by its final users. Given this need, a preliminary study was performed to analyze the usability of the Platform from the point of view of young people. However, it is also crucial that the ecosystem meets usability criteria for the facilitators, due to their role of encouraging young people to participate and serving as a guide in the conversations taking place within communities, as well as in the research projects developed by the young people about different topics related to the digital society. Therefore, a usability study targeting facilitators was carried out to reach insights about how these users value the system’s usability. This usability study was performed through a combination of two techniques, a heuristic analysis by experts and the Computer System Usability Questionnaire to collect the experience of the real users.Item International Conversations in Numbers(WYRED Consortium, 2019-03-11) García-Holgado, A.The WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empowerment in the Digital society) project has celebrated its sixth face-to-face meeting in Belfast (North Ireland) from March 11th – 13th. This presentation gives information about the participations if the online international conversations carried out since the beginning of January 2019.Item CONVERSACIONES INTERNACIONALES. Estereotipos de género en Internet(Grupo GRIAL, 2019-02-22) García-Holgado, A.Presentación en la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad de Salamanca de las conversaciones internacionales sobre estereotipos de género en Internet, que se llevarán a cabo en la plataforma WYRED entre el 25 de febrero y el 10 de marzo de 2019.Item WYRED, a platform to give young people the voice on the influence of technology in today's society. A citizen science approach(CEUR-WS.org, 2019-01-14) García-Peñalvo, F. J.; García-Holgado, A.WYRED project has the aim to give the voice to young people to allow them express themselves about how they understand the role of technology in their lives and the society they live. To do that a methodology and a technological ecosystem have been defined and delivered. The way in which WYRED asks the opinion to the young people is through a citizen science approach, thus young people must participate in international social dialogues and develop research projects that reflect their assumptions and opinions about the digital society. WYRED outcomes should transfer the insights of these activities to the decision-makers for future actionsItem WP3 – Platform - WYRED Istanbul meeting(WYRED Consortium, 2018-11-19) García-Holgado, A.The WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empowerment in the Digital society) project has celebrated its fifth face-to-face meeting in Istanbul (Turkey) from November 19th–21st. This represents the work done by USAL partner regarding the WP3 (WYRED Platform and the Technological Ecosystem).Item WYRED Platform, the ecosystem for the young people(Grupo GRIAL, 2018-07-18) García-Peñalvo, F. J.; García-Holgado, A.The WYRED Platform is a technological ecosystem developed as part of WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empowerment in the Digital society), a European Project funded by the Horizon2020 programme. As society changes, there is a need to understand how it is changing, to explore what is going on. The young people have a key role to play in our society. They are frequently the drivers of new behaviours and understandings, and since they are part of the future society their views and perceptions should be considered. However, they are not well represented and their voices are unheard, and this makes it hard for re-search and policy to identify and understand their needs. The aim of the WYRED Platform is to provide the tools to support dialogue and research processes in which children and young people can express and explore the key issues that they consider as important. To design it, different stakeholders were involved, and several questionnaires and social dialogues were carried out. The WYRED Platform is organized in multicultural and interdisciplinary commu-nities where young people can develop research projects with the support of facilita-tors from different European institutions and associations. The communities have different tools such as forums to establish dialogues and coordinate research cycles, calendars to share dates and organize events or activities, surveys to develop or evalu-ate the projects, a version control system for files to support the documentation gen-erated during the research processes. Also, it provides a tool to publish the results of the research projects. One of its main innovations is the strongly commitment to user privacy, it is de-signed as a safe space in which children and young people can be free to express themselves as they wish. Moreover, it design is centred around and driven by children and young people.Item Presentation of the paper “Usability test of WYRED Platform” in HCII 2018(Grupo GRIAL, 2018-07-18) García-Holgado, A.This is the presentation of the paper entitled “Usability test of WYRED Platform” in the Learning and Collaboration Technologies session at the HCI International 2018 Conference, held in Las Vegas, USA, 15 - 20 July 2018. WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empowerment in the Digital society) is a European H2020 Project that aims to provide a framework for research in which children and young people can express and explore their perspectives and interests in relation to digital society, but also a platform from which they can communicate their perspectives to other stakeholders effectively through innovative engagement processes. It will do this by implementing a generative research cycle involving networking, dialogue, participatory research and interpretation phases centered around and driven by children and young people, out of which a diverse range of outputs, critical perspectives and other insights will emerge to inform policy and decision-making in relation to children and young people’s needs in relation to digital society. The WYRED Platform is already developed, but the target group, young people, should accept it to ensure project aims. This paper presents the usability test done to evolve the Platform.Item WYRED Platform. New features(Grupo GRIAL, 2018-06-18) García-Holgado, A.; García-Peñalvo, F. J.The WYRED (netWorked Youth Research for Empowerment in the Digital society) project has celebrated its fourth face-to-face meeting in Bath (UK) from June 18th till June 20th. One the most important discussed topics was the WYRED Platform new features. This component is the core of the Technology Ecosystem for the project. In this platform, all the virtual interaction occurs in the project, mainly social dialogues and generative research.
